DoubleTree by Hilton launches open-air sleep-in cinema in UK

A unique movie experience has arrived thanks to DoubleTree by Hilton with the launch of the world’s first ever open-air sleep-in cinema where guests can sip Champagne watching a film before snuggling up in style under the stars.

Locations for this season’s screenings range from stately country homes and botanical gardens to 10th century castles, in addition to more urban settings such as the rooftop of London’s One New Change in the heart of The City.

The upscale hotel brand has partnered with The Luna Cinema to offer moviegoers at Luna outdoor screenings throughout this summer a chance of bagging the ultimate upgrade to experience their favourite flicks from the comfort of the ‘DoubleTree by Hilton Suite’.

As well as a full-size bed complete with beautifully soft linen, the custom designed weather-proof suite will also include a private minibar stocked with beer, champagne and snacks, as well as mood lighting to offer the perfect outdoor cinema experience.

All guests will experience DoubleTree by Hilton’s hospitality, starting with the presentation of a warm chocolate chip cookie on arrival. Premium ticket holders will also be treated to added extras, including directors chairs, a free drink and a ‘little things’ kit, to make sure film buffs are all set for their outdoor extravaganza.

While The Luna Cinema’s line-up includes picks from the latest crop of blockbusters and award winners (Birdman, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Theory of Everything), the programme is known for bringing classic films and fan favourites back to the big screen, with nostalgic highlights including Back to the Future, Dirty Dancing, Some Like it Hot, Grease, Groundhog Day, Labyrinth, The Big Lebowski and Ghostbusters.

John Greenleaf, global head of DoubleTree by Hilton said, “We are thrilled to be working with The Luna Cinema this year to bring a bit of DoubleTree by Hilton hospitality to every movie guest. With more than 400 hotels around the world, our brand is synonymous with a unique culture that focuses on the ‘little things’ that make a huge difference to our guests’ travel experiences. This starts with a warm chocolate chip cookie at check-in and the relaxed, friendly service continues throughout their stay. We are looking forward to taking care of the ‘little things’ with Luna so audience members can sit back and enjoy the show!”

George Wood, founder of The Luna Cinema, said, “We have always been passionate about screening cult movies and the latest blockbusters in incredible locations across the country. When the first screening happened in 2008 in Dulwich Park, I really didn’t realise the extent of the popularity of open air cinema here in the UK. The British public has proven that they’re more than willing to brave the elements to enjoy a much-loved film under the stars and now, thanks to DoubleTree by Hilton, they can do all that from the comfort of their own bed – what could be better!”
