Robert Butler returns to Sage Hospitality Group as Executive

sage hospitalitySage Hotel Management, a Sage Hospitality Group company, announced that Robert Butler will return to the company on Sept. 12 as Executive Vice President, directly overseeing The Upscale and Premier Collections. Butler left Sage in 2018 after an impressive 14-year tenure in various operational leadership positions, culminating in his role as Senior Vice President of Operations.

In his new role, Butler will have total oversight of Sage’s Upscale and Premier Collections, which encompass more than 40 soft-branded, branded full service and branded upscale hotels in 14 states. In addition to directly working with a portfolio of properties, he will direct a team of seasoned and accomplished leaders including Brad Robinette, senior vice president of special projects, Steve Santomo, vice president of the Premier Collection and Maryam Seifi, vice president of the Upscale Collection.

“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Robert back to the Sage family,” said Daniel del Olmo, president and chief operating officer of Sage Hotel Management. “Robert is a proven senior executive with an impressive track record of delivering results by nurturing relationships with all stakeholders, making him a perfect fit for this newly created role in our organization. As we prepare for accelerated growth and progress on our journey to become the nation’s undisputable lifestyle hospitality company, I am very grateful to have a leader like Robert on our team.”

“Sage places a major emphasis on attracting, retaining and nurturing top talent, and we absolutely love when our people ‘boomerang’ back to us, which has happened quite often during these past few years. It’s even more delightful when we welcome back one of our longest-tenured and most well-respected leaders,” del Olmo continued. “Beyond his expertise as a leader and business partner, Robert has always been a living example of our company’s purpose of enriching lives, one experience at a time. It is truly a pleasure to continue to grow our team with simply outstanding and like-hearted humans like Robert.”

Butler’s career in hospitality spans more than 30 years, where he has consistently demonstrated the ability to lead hotel teams to deliver exceptional performance. He returns to Sage after spending nearly four years at Crescent Hotels as Executive Vice President of Operations, during which time he oversaw a portfolio of more than 100 hotels and grew revenue by nearly $200M in his first year alone. Outside of his focus on delivering meaningful results, Butler is dedicated to nurturing long-term partnerships with various ownership groups, growing and mentoring talented hoteliers and creating career paths for associates while driving superior associate engagement.

“A big piece of my heart has always remained with Sage, and I am happy to be coming back to work with a team of incredibly talented hospitality professionals,” Butler said. “I look forward to bringing the insights and perspective I have gained in my time away back to Sage. The portfolio has evolved in such a remarkable way, with a noticeable focus on lifestyle and luxury, and I’m looking forward to exceeding expectations for our owners and partners for years to come.”

Over the past few years, Sage’s hotel portfolio has evolved to focus on independent and lifestyle hotels in urban and lifestyle centers, and the company plans to continue strategic growth in this segment with the goal of becoming the nation’s premier lifestyle hospitality company.
