The Sarasota Modern – a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, part of Marriott International, Inc., set to debut in late 2018 – proudly announces the appointment of luxury hospitality leaders, John Markunas as General Manager and Paul Romero as Director of Sales and Marketing.

Most recently serving as general manager at Kimpton’s The Hotel Zamora on Florida’s fashionable St. Pete Beach, Markunas brings more than a decade of luxury boutique hospitality experience to his new role. Additional management expertise includes Kimpton’s Onyx Hotel, Ink48, Eventi and Hotel Marlowe – all situated along the eastern coastline.
Bringing eight years of industry experience to his position at The Sarasota Modern, Romero most recently served as the director of sales & marketing at Kimpton’s The Hotel Zamora where he began working alongside Markunas. After years of collaboration, the two built a foundation ultimately laying the groundwork for a successful future partnership at The Sarasota Modern. His previous roles include senior sales executive at Hilton St. Petersburg, director of sales & catering at Chesapeake Hospitality in Philadelphia and sales manager at Tampa Marriott Westshore.
