WTTC and the European Travel Commission (ETC) welcome the European Commission’s proposal for the EU-wide Digital Green Certificate, which will be a major step towards the recovery of Travel & Tourism in the region.
The introduction of the new certificate to travel could see the Member States welcoming travelers with proof of vaccination, a negative test or a positive antibody test, in time for the busy summer period. This would provide a significant and much-needed boost to economies and save millions of jobs and livelihoods.
Ahead of the vote on Thursday 25th March 2021 to approve the “Urgent procedure” of the be Digital Green Certificate, we call on the European Parliament political groups to take the necessary steps to agree on such procedure.
The proposed Digital Green Certificate, changing the focus from risk countries to risk passengers, therefore, eliminating the need for countries quarantines, along with enhanced health and hygiene measures and mandatory mask-wearing, will provide the reassurance consumers need to book their trips and ensure the return of safe international travel.
