Accor Pacific has reached Garvan Institute of Medical Research’s Life Governor giving level, which represents a lifetime giving of more than $500,000 through the Accor Community Fund.
The funds donated through the Accor Community Fund supports the Garvan Institute of Medical Research’s Rare and Neglected Cancer Research Program.
Since launching in 2016, the Accor Community Fund has been committed to building healthy families by supporting the three focus areas of youth, health and wellbeing, and inclusion. Accor’s 20,000 team members and 340 hotels and resorts across Australia have raised more than $2M in total for the Fund’s five charity partners – Kokoda Youth Foundation, Lifeline, Garvan Institute of Medical Research, AIME and the Australian Childhood Foundation – all whom help positively impact the lives of families.
Professor David Thomas, Director of The Kinghorn Cancer Centre at Garvan Institute of Medical Research, said they are thankful for Accor’s support.
“We feel privileged to be a beneficiary of Accor’s philanthropic efforts. Accor plays a pivotal role in providing our scientists the means to achieve international levels of excellence, as well as creating change for existing and future generations of people who will be affected by our research. Now, more than ever, medical research is critical, and Accor is helping Garvan to make breakthroughs that will innovate the future of health – where we are able to stop disease before it starts.
“Through research programs and clinical trials like MoST, our scientists are making discoveries in the rarest, un-diagnosable and un-treatable cancers. The impact of giving hope to patients, their families and loved ones who have benefited from Accor’s generosity, is immeasurable,” Professor Thomas said.
Accor Pacific CEO, Simon McGrath, commented: “We are delighted that our efforts are making such a positive impact in our communities. Our teams care a great deal about helping people. Fundraising for issues such as mental health, cancer research, Indigenous employment, advocacy for children, and supporting our youth is critical to the nation’s wellbeing. The Accor Community Fund is founded on our people’s values and we donate to projects that help the common welfare of our society.”
