Aparthotel operator Staycity Group opens its second Wilde Aparthotels by Staycity in the German city of Berlin with a third Wilde to follow in Edinburgh next month.
The two openings come in a year of rapid expansion for Staycity, which has seen new outlets in Paris and Venice as well as announcements of site acquisitions in Dublin, Berlin, London, Frankfurt and York amounting to 500 apartments in major UK cities and 850 apartments in Germany.
Wilde Aparthotels by Staycity, Berlin, Checkpoint Charlie is Staycity’s first property in Germany. The 48-apartment development is part of a new scheme occupying what was the best-known crossing point of the Berlin Wall, which divided East and West Berlin during the Cold War.
Central locations in the heart of the city are key to the Wilde proposition, with Wilde Aparthotels by Staycity, Edinburgh, Grassmarket also enjoying a prime position, at the foot of Edinburgh Castle.

Both the Berlin and Edinburgh properties are in stunning locations with the best each city has to offer on their doorstep. It’s exciting to see the Wilde brand taking shape as we add to the estate,” commented Staycity Group CEO and co-founder Tom Walsh.
Edinburgh, Grassmarket offers 128 studio, one-bed and two-bed apartments as well as a gym, guest lounge and Staycafé selling snacks, continental breakfasts and hot and cold drinks. The development forms part of a wider mixed-use scheme comprising residential and commercial units and student accommodation.
The apartments in both properties have super-comfy XL-sized beds with Hypnos mattress, a Grohe rainfall shower and high quality bed linen. All have a well-equipped kitchen – complete with Nespresso machine – so guests can cook and eat in their apartment or order in a takeaway – making it a real home away from home experience for both leisure and corporate guests.
The properties also offer guest laundry facilities, a lounge area for working, relaxing or meeting friends or colleagues, 24-hour reception and the option of self check-in.
Wilde is Staycity’s premium concept inspired by the wit and irreverence of Irish playwright and poet Oscar Wilde. The brand’s ethos is based around the fusion of superior design with touches of the unexpected offering space for guests to escape, relax, cook and work in creative interiors.
Staycity Group reported a 2.4% hike in like-for-like sales in the first half of 2019, on the back of a rise in occupancy and average daily rates. Anticipated turnover for 2019 is €81m, up 18% on 2018.
