The RuMa Hotel and Residences, officially opened its doors on Friday, 30 November 2018, in the vibrant heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle, as the latest luxury hotel and residences by Urban Resort Concepts.
Seamlessly combining contemporary design with the expansive history and rich culture of Malaysia, The RuMa pays homage to its local heritage while redefining the luxury landscape in the vibrant capital. Comprised of 253 elegant guest rooms and suites, the new-build hotel provides sweeping views of the city’s iconic Petronas Towers as well as other city highlights in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Rooted in a service culture of Hostmanship™, hotel staff are dedicated to creating a genuinely respectful and tailored experience for each guest that reflects contemporary interpretations of Kuala Lumpur’s colonial origins and lasting charm. Inspired by the Malay word for home, “rumah,” the hotel captures the intimacy of a home run by an accomplished host with unparalleled standards of service centred around the needs and comforts of guests. The RuMa hotel goes above and beyond to provide their guests with 24-hour check-in and check-out, complimentary access to the fully stocked mini-bar, breakfast anywhere in the hotel, best-in-class WiFi, meeting room use, laundry and pressing services, among others.
The hotel’s design – brought to life by Shanghai-based design firm MQ-studio – seamlessly integrates luxury and understated metaphorical design throughout the modern sphere. Each area within the hotel features contemporary design details emphasised by uniquely Malaysian cultural influences, handcrafted furniture, and artisanal pieces including creations by iconic local designers Dato Sri Bernard Chandran and Joe Chia. The enchanting experience begins upon arrival, where guests enter through the hotel’s Moorish-inspired, woven bronze screen. They are then greeted by a locally handcrafted bronze water fountain enclosed by an interlaced terracotta birdcage, in reference to the birdcages that once held canaries used to check carbon monoxide gas leakages in mines. Once inside, guests will uncover further stories of the city’s origins and influences.
The brand-new hotel presents two specialty dining venues, each celebrating unique local flavors with innovative and beautifully-dressed dishes. Located on the mezzanine level, ATAS Modern Malaysian Eatery, with Executive Chef Tyson Gee at the helm, takes both local and travelling diners on an unexpected culinary journey through the Malay Peninsula. ATAS presents evolving seasonal menus, serving the bold flavors of fresh local produce and ingredients for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Nestled in the lively lobby, SEVEN Bar and Lounge offers an array of delectable refreshments, light meals and afternoon tea, as well as a selection of expertly curated craft cocktails and distillates from around the world.
Additionally, The RuMa exhibits a 25-metre outdoor infinity pool and sundeck cantilevered from the building and overlooking the glittering skyline with a dedicated pool bar and lounge, a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness centre, and a variety of indoor and outdoor venues fully-equipped with leading edge audio-visual technology for both corporate and social gatherings. Set to open in early 2019, a tranquil UR Spa offering results-driven treatments that combine modern science with ancient healing, and on-property barber shop operated by famed Truefitt & Hill, will both be available on property.
Located in the world-class city of Kuala Lumpur, The RuMa is poised to be a new modern retreat encompassed by a convergence of diverse cultures prevalent in the bustling region. With an abundance of activities, dining options, and awe-inspiring sights, the city presents travellers with endless opportunities to immerse themselves in its storytelling history, diversity and evolution.
Expanding Urban Resort Concept’s increasingly global presence, The RuMa is the only hotel in Kuala Lumpur to join The Leading Hotels of the World – a collection of more than 400 luxury hotels around the globe that embody the essence of their destinations – and marking the Shanghai-based company’s first luxury development outside of China.
