Marriott International has announced the opening of its first Courtyard by Marriott in Cambodia with the debut of Courtyard by Marriott Siem Reap Resort. This represents Marriott International’s first hotel in Cambodia, with a second hotel to follow when Courtyard Phnom Penh opens in the capital city later this year. Courtyard by Marriott has several other projects in the pipeline across Cambodia, identifying it as an exciting emerging market in the region.

The brand’s flagship in Cambodia features modern Khmer architectural design, an innovative lobby space, locally inspired food and beverages and 233 contemporary guestrooms and suites that combine stylish comfort with functionality, thoughtfully designed for good nights and good days.

“Cambodia is an amazing country, full of exotic destinations, making it perfect for a unique and memorable holiday – one is Siem Reap,” said Ashley Lai, General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott Siem Reap Resort. “We are blessed that our resort is located strategically only 15 minutes away from Angkor Wat, a short ride from the buzzing Pub Street and only 500m away from the largest local fresh market in Siem Reap. It’s a place where one can almost have a taste of the daily lives of locals going about their day, yet close enough to all the major hot spots in town.”

Siem Reap is home to the Angkor Archeological Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992 and Cambodia’s main tourist attraction. Other attractions include silk farms, artisan workshops showcasing local crafts, fishing villages on Tonle Sap, balloon rides and the Cambodian Cultural Village. Siem Reap also features three world-class golf courses, including the Angkor Golf Resort designed by Nick Faldo.

Courtyard by Marriott was the first brand created with business travellers in mind, and since its debut 35 years ago has been dedicated to creating an environment where great things can happen, enabling guests to succeed. Whether they are on a business trip or energizing vacation, Courtyard by Marriott helps their guests work, exercise, eat well, connect and be at their best. From smartly designed modern guestrooms to flexible communal spaces that work for both private meetings and more social gatherings, what underpins it all is the Courtyard by Marriott teams’ passionate energy in delivering a warm, welcoming environment and the commitment to creating the best stay for their guests.

“Tourism in Cambodia is on an upward trajectory with growing international interest in the country for its incredible historical sites, great beaches, rich culture, and warm, welcoming people,” said Shu Ping Liang, Director of Brand & Marketing, Marriott International, Select Service Brands. “Marriott International is tremendously excited about the future of Courtyard by Marriott in such an important emerging market as Cambodia.”

In addition to China and India, where Courtyard by Marriott continues to see strong growth especially in secondary and tertiary cities, Southeast Asia is a strong focus for the brand, where new markets will be explored. In The Philippines, Courtyard by Marriott IloIlo Hotel recently opened, marking not only the brand debut in that country, but also the first international hotel in Iloilo. Courtyard by Marriott Cebu is also scheduled to open 2021. Courtyard by Marriott also has its sights set on emerging markets like Bangladesh and Myanmar, where Courtyard by Marriott Dhaka and Courtyard by Marriott Yangon are scheduled to open later in 2018 and 2019 respectively, with plans for Courtyard by Marriott hotels to open in Malaysia and Vietnam over the next few years.
