Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has announced the appointment of Michael Calixte as regional vice president of Fairmont Morocco, and general manager of Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech.
Calixte has been with the Accor group since 1985, and has served in multiple of the group’s hotel brands across 13 countries. In the new role Calixte will be responsible for supporting the brand’s development across the Kingdom, through its four properties: Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech, Fairmont Taghazout Bay, Fairmont La Marina Rabat – Salé, and Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier.
Calixte has been working in the hospitality sector since the age of 13. He found his love for the industry at a family run hotel in France, where he spent his summers working. This first immersion eventually took him across the globe working in Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa.
Calixte’s career excelled when he made the move to the Middle East. He managed Sofitel Cairo Maadi, Sofitel Downtown Dubai (as part of its opening team), Swissôtel Dubai, and Le Grand Amman Managed by Accor, the future Sofitel in Jordan.
In 2020 Calixte took on the role of managing director of Accor Algeria, before being promoted to vice president of operations Algeria and Tunisia in 2022. This position gave him a broader strategic perspective, overseeing the group’s growth and consolidation in these key markets.
In the new role Calixte aims to reaffirm Fairmont Royal Palm as a premier golf destination. As a golf enthusiast himself, he is especially determined to enhance the overall player experience and appeal of the course, while ensuring the resort’s unique identity continues to shine. With his appointment as head of Fairmont Morocco, Michael Calixte marks the beginning of a new chapter for the brand, embodying a renewed commitment to excellence. On a national level Calixte plans to elevate the brands recognition by showcasing the distinctive charm and excellence of all the Fairmont properties in Morocco.
