Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef is excited to announce the promotion of experienced marine expert Lisa McMullen to the position of Living Reef Manager.
Boasting close to 10 years of experience across a number of roles including Reef Supervisor, Dive Instructor and Marine Educator, Lisa brings a wealth of marine-based knowledge and skills to her new position following four years as Living Reef Supervisor at Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef.
Prior to this, she gained invaluable experience around the globe including roles as Dive Instructor and Coral Restoration Co-ordinator at Grand Cayman Island, as a Dive Guide in Abu Dhabi where she completed her Dive Instructor training and as a Marine Educator in Natewa Bay, Fiji. Locally she has worked on Heron Island, Lady Elliot Island and Hervey Bay.
“I’m thrilled that I can continue my passion for marine education in this new role and love that it allows me to help guests to interact with our beautiful sea life while teaching them just how important our marine environment is to this part of the world,” Lisa said.
“As Living Reef Manager, I’m also responsible for overseeing the ongoing reef restoration project of Lover’s Cove which involves lots of hands-on restoration work using a variety of different devices. I also enjoy working with such a passionate team and look forward to helping them build their skills through the range of work we do within the Living Reef,” she said.
In her new role as Living Reef Manager, Lisa is responsible for managing the health of resort marine life, feeding schedules and maintenance of the life support systems, providing interactive tours for guests and school groups as well as managing the coral restoration of Lover’s Cove by fragmenting, outplanting and monitoring.
Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef is proud of its strong commitment to marine conservation and boasts one of Australia’s most unique reef experiences, the amazing Living Reef which is home to over 100 species of sea creatures. It is also the only island in the Whitsundays to be awarded ECOTOURISM certification from Eco Tourism Australia.
