Arlo Hotels today announced the appointment of Cordell Nelson as general manager at the newest addition to the brand portfolio, Arlo Washington, D.C., which will open in Fall 2024. Previously general manager at Arlo SoHo, Nelson is going back to his roots in Washington, D.C. to help establish Arlo’s footprint in the nation’s capital. Nelson will oversee operational duties as the property gears up for its opening later this year.

“We’re excited to be expanding the Arlo portfolio and offer a launch pad for locals, travelers and groups in the heart of the nation’s capital,” said Anoop Rustgi, managing director of asset management at Quadrum Global, which owns Arlo Hotels. “Through his time at Arlo SoHo, Cordell has proven to be a key part of the brand’s success and we have no doubt he is the right person to cultivate Arlo’s presence in Washington, D.C..”

In 2016, Nelson started working with Arlo Hotels and assisted with the opening of Arlo SoHo and Arlo NoMad in New York City. He was brought in as the director of front office at Arlo NoMad, then was promoted to director of operations and shortly after, general manager all within his 5-year tenure at the hotel. Nelson transitioned to Arlo SoHo as the general manager in 2021. An operationally-minded hospitality professional, Nelson has demonstrated tremendous success implementing guest service plans, understanding and reacting to the New York market, developing staff training processes, and increasing financial performances.

Nelson started his career in Washington, D.C. after graduating with a degree in hospitality management from Howard University. He brings with him 17 years of experience in the hospitality industry, having worked for a myriad of New York City hotels including Omni Berkshire Place, Millennium Premier New York Times Square and the Waldorf Astoria New York. While managing Hilton Garden Inn and Hotel Rouge: A Kimpton Hotel in D.C., Nelson was able to sharpen his charismatic personality and learn innovative ways to consistently satisfy his guests.

Arlo Washington, D.C. is anticipated to open in Fall 2024 as Arlo Hotels’ first property in the D.C. market. Situated in the city’s bustling Judiciary Square neighborhood, the 445-room hotel is close to globally recognized landmarks such as The Capitol and the Supreme Court Building, fine dining options and upscale shopping. The hotel sits where D.C.’s historic Harrison Apartments once stood and will include an indoor-outdoor rooftop lounge and pool, four meeting rooms, a restaurant and bar, in addition to a to-go style cafe, lounge and indoor courtyard.
