Azul Hospitality Group, a fully integrated operating platform delivering extensive support and resources for all facets of hotel operations, announced today the successful conversion and repositioning of the former Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa to the Hotel Solea, Autograph Collection, back in March 2026.
Now operating as Hotel Solea, the resort underwent a comprehensive, multi-million-dollar transformation that repositioned it to Marriott’s Autograph Collection.
Azul Hospitality Group managed the operational transition and repositioning for Grand Pacific Resorts, overseeing all aspects of the conversion while maintaining operations throughout the process. The successful repositioning further expands Azul’s long-standing relationship with Grand Pacific Resorts, which also includes management of two additional hotels in Carlsbad, including The Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa and The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton.
“Successfully repositioning a large-scale resort from a Sheraton to part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection required close alignment across operations, ownership, brand standards, design, commercial strategy, and guest experience,” said Alvaro Fraile, CEO, Azul Hospitality Group. “This project reflects Azul’s ability to execute highly complex hotel transformations while preserving operational performance and elevating long-term asset positioning. We are proud to continue our partnership with Grand Pacific Resorts and help bring Hotel Solea to life as a differentiated lifestyle destination within the Southern California market.”
Located in Carlsbad, California, Hotel Solea features 201 guestrooms and suites, several food-and-beverage outlets including signature restaurant Verise, and more than 70,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space for business and lifestyle events.
“The transformation of Hotel Solea represents an important strategic investment in the long-term evolution of the asset,” said Timothy Stripe, Co-President, Grand Pacific Resorts. “Azul played a critical role in managing the operational complexity of this transition while helping reposition the property to better align with today’s lifestyle traveler and group customer. The result is stronger long-term positioning for the asset.”
