The U.S. hotel industry reported mixed performance results from the previous month, according to May 2022 data from STR.
May 2022 (percentage change from May 2019):
- Occupancy: 65.1% (-5.0%)
- Average daily rate (ADR): US$149.91 (+13.4%)
- Revenue per available room (RevPAR): US$97.53 (+7.7%)
The country’s occupancy and RevPAR levels decreased slightly from April, while ADR remained relatively flat.
Among the Top 25 Markets, New York City experienced the highest occupancy level (80.6%), which was down 9.7% from the market’s 2019 benchmark.
Markets with the lowest occupancy for the month included Minneapolis (58.8%) and Houston (59.4%).
Philadelphia reported the steepest decline in occupancy when compared with 2019 (-17.0%).
Reflecting continued improvement in business travel and groups, the Top 25 Markets showed higher occupancy and ADR than all other markets.
