Ryan Parker has been appointed as general manager of The Shay, a Destination by Hyatt hotel the brand’s first independent hotel in Los Angeles. Parker, a storied hospitality professional with a flair for creative, will be instrumental to the hotel’s Fall 2021 launch in the heart of Culver City’s flourishing epicenter of entertainment, Ivy Station.
Parker’s 15 years of hospitality experience include serving on the Board of Directors of Visit Santa Barbara and Hospitality Santa Barbara; assuming the role of general manager at landmark boutique hotels including Highgate’s Huntington Hotel on Nob Hill and Kimpton’s Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara, and executing successful partnerships with local charities and businesses including United Way’s Thomas Fire Fund and Core Power Yoga Santa Barbara. In his newest role as general manager of The Shay, Parker will oversee daily operations of The Shay’s guestrooms and suites, onsite experiences, staff management, and guest relations.
“I’ve fallen in love with Culver City, living right outside the legendary Helms Bakery. There’s so much to offer between the independent businesses that operate here and the community’s creative spirit,” said Ryan Parker, general manager of The Shay. “The Shay will anchor this extraordinary neighborhood with a convivial new space that serves creative professionals in the Arts District, locals passing through the new Culver City Metro station, and business travelers convening after a productive meeting at Ivy Station. I look forward to being a part of sharing something new and vibrant with the World of Hyatt.”
Designed by boutique agency Studio Collective whose award-winning portfolio includes LA’s Hotel June and Waikiki’s Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club, The Shay will offer 148 loft-like accommodations, two onsite culinary concepts helmed by Michelin-starred Chef Danny Grant’s What If Syndicate group, an inviting lobby space and game room outfitted with an eclectic selection of local art, and Culver City’s first semi-public rooftop pool deck and lounge. Housing 8,000 square feet of versatile indoor-outdoor event space with inspiring views of the vibrant community it serves, The Shay will be a co-catalyst for the historic neighborhood’s re-emergence as a destination for creative collaboration.
“After over a year of virtual engagements, we’re ready to offer a varied series of relaxed contemporary spaces and amenities that evoke collaboration and connection at The Shay’s station of inspiration,” said Parker. “Whether hosting a film preview at The Shay’s expansive rooftop pool and lounge, a brainstorm session in our contemporary light-filled boardroom, or a belated wedding reception in our 3,000 square-foot outdoor courtyard, The Shay will offer a memorable backdrop for any modern-day happening.”
A lover of music, art, and adventure originally from New Hampshire, Parker spends his free time traveling with husband Rami to San Sebastian, Spain; learning to sail along California’s coast; and off-roading his Jeep in the mountains.
