Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas announces the highly anticipated opening of two properties – Six Senses Kocataş Mansions in Istanbul, Turkey, and Six Senses Galapagos, the first Six Senses property in the Galapagos Islands.
The Legendary Bosphorus Strait, Istanbul
History meets hospitality in the city where east meets west
Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas brings its trademark unique and quirky take on hospitality to two restored Ottoman-era mansions in Istanbul, Turkey.
Six Senses Kocataş Mansions, which also incorporates next-door Sait Paşa Mansion, is located in the prosperous Sariyer district of Istanbul’s European side, famous for its “Pearls of Bosphorus” waterfront properties. The urban resort recreates historic architectural features and artifacts from the site’s former 19th century Kocataş Mansions, which were devastated in a fire years ago, paying homage to its original footprint.
Formerly owned by and named after Ottoman Minister of Justice Necmettin Molla Kocataş, owner of Kocataş Water, the site enjoys far-reaching views over the Bosphorus as it begins its last curve towards the Black Sea. This iconic Strait has been sailed since the Roman era and today marks one of the world’s most strategic waterways, separating Europe and Asia.
Forty-five generously proportioned guest rooms and suites are divided between the two stately three-level heritage mansions, together with lounges, banqueting and function rooms and a gallery. Inspired by the city’s ability to embrace its contradictions – whether east and west, ancient and modern, or mystical and earthly – the interior design blends traditional local flavors with contemporary Six Senses signature touches.
The stately heritage mansions together with the all-day Kahve café, Toro Latin GastroBar and gym are scheduled to open in November 2019, with more facilities to be added by next Spring.
Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas Goes Wild over First Resort in the Galápagos Islands
The Galápagos Islands are home to some of the world’s most amazing wildlife encounters.
The isolated chain of 19 islands emerged alone from the rest of the world and its ecology developed in its own unique way. Guests at the upcoming Six Senses Galapagos will therefore experience a one-of-a-kind (literally-anywhere-on- earth) natural environment.
Six Senses Galapagos is located in Cerro Verde on the northeastern coast of San Cristobal Island. This is the quietest of the main islands, blessed with a relaxed, tranquil vibe.
UNESCO recognized the Galápagos Islands as a World Heritage Site in 1978 and a Biosphere Reserve in 1985, and development is only permitted on three percent of the total area. In accordance with strict local laws, and with strong involvement from the local community during the project’s early design and visioning stages, allowance has been granted to develop the resort on a beautiful and verdant hill with unspoiled views of the ocean and other topographical landmarks.
While final accommodations are being finalized, the master architectural direction by Hitesh Mehta Design focuses on a necessarily idiosyncratic planning philosophy, which balances economic, environmental, social and spiritual aspects of the project.
Plans are already underway for an Earth Lab and Experience Center. Fitness center, yoga studio, comprehensive wellness programming, Alchemy Bar and local healing and herbalist treatment offerings will also be a highlight of any stay. Following the guiding principles of Eat With Six Senses, the food and beverage program will minimize the need to import any produce.
Six Senses Galapagos is located a 35-minute drive from the San Cristobal airport at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The resort is slated to open in 2021.
