Sunway Hotels helps flood victims in Malaysia

Malaysia floodingsAs Malaysians continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, flood woes and economy downturn, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur Hotels has embarked on a string of initiatives to help ease the burden faced by the country’s most at-risk communities.

Since the start of 2021, the Hotels, namely Sunway Resort, Sunway Pyramid Hotel and Sunway Clio Hotel, assisted by the Rotary Club Malaysia and ADAB Youth Garage (AYG), a Bangi-based non-profit organisation has donated more than 200 items amounting to over RM10,000 which includes 115 king-size divans, mattresses, blankets and towels, as well as furniture, such as televisions, sofa beds and chest of drawers, to flood victims in the worst-hit districts of Pahang. Through Sunway Group’s community initiatives and partnership with the Selangor Youth Community (SAY), items were also donated to orphanages, including Akademi Remaja Islam Autisma (ARISMA), Pusat Jagaan Anbe Sivam and House of Love (Pertubuhan Rumah Anak Yatim Berkat Kasih).

“The pandemic has already affected many livelihoods, but the floods have further impacted people’s lives,” said Alex Castaldi, Senior General Manager, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur Hotels. “We feel heartened that during these unprecedented times, we are able to stand in solidarity and provide to those in need, using our existing resources and inventories.

The initiatives are part of the #SunwayForGood movement, which is Sunway’s commitment towards a sustainable environment, economy and society. Since the launch of the Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development at Sunway University via a USD 10 million gift by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network in December 2016, Sunway Group has been powering their 13 business divisions to develop business strategies that are aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals.
