Woodstock Inn and Resort announces new Terrain Parks at Suicide Six

The Woodstock Inn & Resort, in partnership with Arena Snowparks, is constructing two new terrain parks and freestyle terrain at the resort’s Suicide Six Ski Area for the 2019-2020 ski season.

“The new terrain parks at Suicide Six further cements the ski area as a vibrant winter sports destination for both travelers and the community,” said Tim Reiter, General Manager of Suicide Six Ski Area. “Each season we work hard to offer new enhancements that will enrich the guest experience.”

Two terrain parks are being installed at Suicide Six to cater to a wide range of ski and snowboard abilities. The mountain’s Milky Way will contain smaller, entry-level terrain while Lasky’s Lot will cater to intermediate skiers and riders. Arena Snowparks built five custom features specifically for Suicide Six. The variety of rails and boxes include a 22 foot fat rainbow rail, 30 foot flat down box and a 20 foot flat rail. Both terrain parks are designed to support snowsports progression while also providing optimal teaching areas for the multiple private and semi-private lessons offered by Suicide Six Ski Area and the Woodstock Ski Runners seasonal programs.

In addition to the flow features on Milky Way and Lasky’s Lot, majority of the east side of Suicide Six serviced by Chair 2 will be designated as freestyle terrain. The trail offers exhilarating hits and jibs throughout while also leaving space for skiers and riders to enjoy the groomers without hitting the features.

Suicide Six will host two freestyle events this season. On Saturday, December 28 the inaugural Festivus Rail Jam competition will take place under lights on the bottom of Lasky’s Lot. Open to skiers and riders, there will be two hike accessible rail selections to accommodate varying ability levels. A cash prize is offered for the winner. The SoPo Ranch Slopestyle Contest on Sunday, February 9 will feature a family-friendly jam format contest specifically for youth skiers and riders ages 7-17. Prizes to be awarded.

“The upgraded snowmaking capabilities installed last season, coupled with an all-star terrain team, have set the groundwork for the freestyle initiative at Suicide Six Ski Area,” added Tim Reiter. “The team includes Christina Mattsson, Director of Outdoor Programs at Suicide Six, with 20 years of experience in the snowsports industry as a snowboard coach, trainer and freestyle judge. Chris McIlvaine, Snow Surfaces Manager, and Will Burdick, Park Specialist, bring a lifetime of grooming and terrain park knowledge. Andrew Holson, Woodstock Ski Runners freestyle founder and program coach, rounds out the crew with expertise and passion for terrain park development.”

Suicide Six Ski Area has more than 100 acres of skiing and snowboarding available on 24 trails and slopes suitable for all abilities. The ski area will open on December 14, 2019. For more information, visit: https://www.suicide6.com/
