Among its portfolio of 120 chic and remarkable hotels in 43 countries, Sofitel is proud of its uniquely beautiful properties in Colombia, including Sofitel Bogotá Victoria Regia and Sofitel Legend Santa Clara, which was recently recognized by Travel + Leisure as one of the finest hotels in the world.

Taking advantage of the great natural environment of Barú, Accor began the construction of the property in alliance with Patrimonios Estrategias Inmobiliarias, Cementos Argos andArquitectura y Concreto, who have demonstrated an impeccable record of accomplishment in the Caribbean region.
Arquitectura y Concreto, says, “the development of the city of Cartagena de Indias is constantly expanding within the new limits of the real estate market and the island area of Barú is a place with a lot of potential. Sofitel Calablanca is in a privileged place along the 7km sector of Porto Nao, on the shores of the warm Caribbean Sea, in front of a white sand beach, with spectacular views.”
Only 20 minutes by boat from Cartagena de Indias and 40 minutes by land, the new Sofitel Calablanca will accommodate 400 guests within a generous space of more than 19,750 sqm. The architectural design will achieve a balance between the natural ecosystems and the exclusive surrounding community, creating the refined and understated sense of modern luxury, for which Sofitel is known.
“As the first international brand of luxury hotels created in France, Sofitel is recognized as a world ambassador of French art de vivre, so we are very excited to arrive in Barú with this chic and modern international project. Our goal is to attract luxury travelers to eat, sleep, enjoy, travel, stay, celebrate and live the French Way at Sofitel Hotels & Resorts through the brand passions of design, gastronomy, art & culture, and well-being. That will also contribute to the development of tourism in one of the most important destinations in the region,” said Philippe Trapp, Executive Vice President of the Luxury and Upscale Brands of Accor in South America.
Expected to open in mid-2021, Sofitel Calablanca is destined to become an icon of the Caribbean region. The hotel will consist of a main building (lobby, restaurants, spa, fitness and kids’ club) for a total of 187 rooms, distributed in ten smaller buildings, including 23 suites, all with ocean views and balconies. The hotel will also feature three restaurants, six bars, more than 1000sqm of meeting rooms, and four swimming pools.
Sofitel Calablanca is also in the process of registering for certification in sustainable construction under the LEED system, recognized internationally for its standards that ensure good practices and efficiency in terms of energy, construction processes and environmental impact management.
With this new project, Accor will continue to consolidate itself in Colombia as one of the top international companies leading the hospitality revolution, offering augmented lifestyle experiences that go beyond accommodations. This ranges from gastronomy and entertainment to co-working and concierge services, creating job opportunities and promoting economic development throughout the country in a sustainable way.
