Marriott International today announced the appointment of John Douglas as Area General Manager, Pacific Islands.
Based in Fiji, Douglas will lead Marriott International’s operations across its Pacific Islands portfolio, overseeing flagship resort destinations including Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, Sheraton Denarau Villas, Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, Fiji, and The Westin Fiji Golf Resort & Spa upon reopening. He will also provide strategic oversight across Marriott International’s broader portfolio in Fiji, Samoa and New Caledonia.
Douglas brings more than 26 years of experience with Marriott International, having held senior leadership roles spanning finance and hotel operations across Australia, the Caribbean, Europe and the United States. He began his Marriott career in 1999 at Brisbane Marriott Hotel and has since worked across a range of hospitality segments, including wellness centres, golf resorts, casinos and Marriott Vacation Club properties. Most recently, he served as Senior Area Director of Finance Operations for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific (ANZP), supporting Marriott International’s regional portfolio across ANZP.
Jason Nuell, Regional Vice President, Australia, New Zealand & Pacific, Marriott International, welcomed the appointment, stating: “John is a highly respected Marriott leader whose breadth of experience across operations, finance and commercial strategy positions him strongly to lead our Pacific Islands portfolio. His collaborative leadership style reflects our company culture, his deep understanding of the region and long-standing commitment to Marriott International will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our presence across the Pacific.”
Douglas said he is honoured to take on the role and excited by the opportunities ahead for the region.
“The Pacific Islands are home to some of Marriott International’s most distinctive resort destinations, shaped by exceptional associates, rich cultural experiences and world-class hospitality. I look forward to working closely with our teams and local communities to further elevate the guest experience, support sustainable tourism growth and continue showcasing this remarkable region to travellers from around the world,” he said.
The appointment comes as Marriott International continues to invest in its Pacific portfolio, with a focus on strengthening its resort footprint and delivering world-class hospitality experiences across some of the region’s most sought-after destinations.
