W Scottsdale, located in the heart of the city’s lively Entertainment District, is pleased to announce the return of David J. Cronin, CPCE, CMP as general manager. With more than 30 years in the hospitality industry, including postings in Darmstadt, Frankfurt, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis and Nashville, Cronin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and an appetite for innovation to the role, skillfully balancing daily operations with pushing boundaries to create forward-thinking, one-of-a-kind experiences for guests.
Cronin has in-depth experience with the W brand, having served as complex general manager at W Minneapolis, leading the hotel to achieve the 2016 Luxury Hotel of the Year for the Western Region and Luxury Hotel of the Year for Marriott and Starwood Americas, and opening general manager at W Nashville following his initial tenure as general manager at W Scottsdale. In Scottsdale, Cronin oversaw the property’s extensive renovations while still leading market share and ADR. His strategic leadership was instrumental in W Scottsdale’s achievement in receiving the Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ Distinctive Luxury Hotel of the Year for the Western Region in 2018.
Most recently, Cronin served as resort manager at JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, where he worked closely with the various departments making up the vast property of more than 1,002 guest rooms, meeting space, Water Park, Golf Courses and numerous food and beverage outlets. Over his career, he has served in managerial roles at Stanton South Beach, Le Meridien Chambers Minneapolis, Houston Marriott West Loop by the Galleria, Harbor Beach Resort & Spa, Chicago Marriott Downtown, Salt Lake City Marriott Downtown, San Antonio Rivercenter/Riverwalk hotels, Arabella Grand Hotel, Maritim Hotels, and Seminaris Hotels. Cronin also spent more than four years in Germany at Frankfurt Marriott Hotel as senior catering sales manager.
Cronin’s personal approach to hospitality and inspiring leadership earned his properties numerous prestigious awards including Marriott’s Chairman Circle Achiever Award and Global Leadership Award for Special Events. He has received leadership and guest-focused accolades as well, including Marriott Event Team of the Year, Global Event Leader of the Year, Most Improved Hotel in the Americas, and The General Manager Mustang Award for Outstanding Business Leadership, Luxury Hotel of the year twice and number one rated steak house in Nashville.
