Camelback Resort, a year-round recreational destination nestled in the Pocono Mountains, has named Terry Bechtold its new vice president of operations. In his new position, Bechtold will oversee and direct all resort departments, including its lodge, housekeeping, front desk, retail, Camelbeach and all recreational activities, including skiing, snowtubing, mountain coaster, summer tubing, ziplines and more.
According to David Makarsky, managing director of Camelback Resort, Bechtold is an enthusiastic hospitality industry leader with more than three decades of industry experience. “We are thrilled to have Terry join our team as we work to improve and expand the multiple seasonal adventure experiences offered at our growing resort,” Makarsky said. “With a wide range of experience, he has an extensive background in all facets of the hospitality industry and a strong track record in overseeing all operational activities within destination properties.”
Before joining Camelback, Bechtold ran his own consulting firm and was vice president of operations for Kentucky-based AJS Hotels. Specializing in operational and budget management, market analysis and hotel turnarounds, he has held multiple executive-level positions at luxury resorts across the country and in the Caribbean, among them 11 years as a general manager at multiple high-end Starwood Hotels – including four years as the general manager of the Five-Star St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort in Puerto Rico, managing director of Florida’s Hammock Beach Resort, Club & Spa and vice president of operations at the One & Only Ocean Club, Paradise Island in the Bahamas. He launched his career as director of banquets for San Jose’s Fairmont Hotel and from there moved on to the Hotel Sofitel where he worked his way up to food and beverage director at the company’s Miami property.
Certified as a level 1 sommelier, he acquired his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and finance at San Jose State University, where he was a catcher on the school’s baseball team and holds a certificate in hotel management from Jean-Pierre Fissore, Lycée Technique Hôtelier.
