Hyatt Regency Al Kout Mall in Kuwait has a new general manager. Walid El Awardly has joined the hotel from Hyatt Regency Riyadh Olaya in Saudi Arabia. The Egyptian has worked on and off for Hyatt for a combined 17-plus years, having travelled across the globe with the group.
In his new post, he will look after all operations of Hyatt Regency Al Kout Mall, brought in especially for his achievements while in Riyadh. While in the Kingdom, he was closely involved in formulating hospitality strategies in business acquisition and development in various segments such as leisure, sports and conventions.
With more than 25 years of total experience, he began as an assistant front office manager with Sofitel Sharm El Sheikh in 1997. From there, he moved to Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor in the same post in 2001, and later began a 14-year stint with Hyatt.
In 2001, he became front office manager with Hyatt Regency Sharm Al Sheikh, promoted up to director of rooms in 2004. By 2006, he left Egypt for Hyatt Regency Phuket as EAM, later heading to Grand Hyatt Beijing in the same role.
In 2009, he returned to Egypt, working at Grand Hyatt Cairo as EAM for two years, next taking on his first hotel manager position in Dar es Salaam. He then spent a year as GM of Hyatt Place in Canada, later leaving Hyatt for a role with Canada’s Westmont Hospitality Group as a regional director.
He then worked as GM of Delta Hotel by Marriott in Saskatchewan before returning to Hyatt in 2019.
