Young Hoteliers Summit: Rankings report reveals major trends in the industry

width=The YHS Rankings, a rating survey conducted by the Young Hoteliers Summit catches each year the latest trends in the hospitality industry by interviewing nearly 2’000 future hospitality leaders.Ê This year’s topic revolved around the central theme: ÒEyes on the Future: Following the Momentum of GrowthÓ.

The report not only reveals the most popular employer of the year but analyses the motivations of young hoteliers to choose an international hospitality brand. It was found that career path and advancement were the greatest motivators for the 1766 respondents, when choosing future employment possibilities. In contrast, a good salary or job security was ranked much lower, a tendency in line with last year’s analysis of motivators. Contrarily, the motivation to work in traditional hospitality has seen an upward trend after it had taken a major dip in 2016 and 2017. Surprisingly, 28% of all participants were extremely motivated to work in entrepreneurial companies in the industry. The trend of opening up an own company is in line with the respondent’s inclination to leave their first company after less than 5 years.

The participants were also asked which hotel brands they would find most appealing to work for. In the Midscale and Budget segment, Ibis hotels ranked first whereas in the Upscale and Upper Midscale segment, Double Tree by Hilton came in first, followed by Hyatt Place and Crown Plaza. For the Luxury and Upper Upscale segment, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company won first place with 60% of votes, with last year’s winner Four Seasons coming in second. Four Seasons was followed by W Hotels Worldwide, a new player to the YHS top ranking of employers.
