The Sun Rose West Hollywood, the newly reborn independent property in the heart of the Sunset Strip, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kris Umstattd as General Manager. Umstattd brings more than 25 years of hospitality experience, with a strong expertise in the Los Angeles and Southern California region. As Umstattd takes the reins of the The Sun Rose West Hollywood, voted the #1 Hotel in Los Angeles in the Condé Nast Traveler 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards, he will oversee all aspects of the property’s operations, including its 149 guestrooms and 37 suites, signature spa, rooftop restaurant and pool, and live-music venue – Live at the Sun Rose – as the property prepares to unveil exciting new concepts and revitalizations this summer.
“We have a significant opportunity to build an extraordinary hospitality brand in Los Angeles,” says Umstattd. “This part of the city has a rich legacy of iconic independent hotels that truly shine. I’m excited to join this team and help guide The Sun Rose along that same path and solidify it as the next great independent luxury hotel in West Hollywood.”
Kris Umstattd has been in the hotel business almost his entire life. With his parents both veterans of the industry themselves, he began working in hotels and restaurants at the young age of 14. After receiving his degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Umstattd held various sales & marketing positions with organizations such as Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels, Marriott and Hyatt. He joins The Sun Rose from his most recent role of Regional Director, Sales & Marketing of Loews Hotels & Co.
As a native Angeleno, Umstattd has fond memories of countless nights at the House of Blues, where The Sun Rose West Hollywood now stands. This musical history, proximity to the renowned Comedy Store, and the vibrancy of Sunset Boulevard combine into what Umstattd calls his “favorite intersection in all of Los Angeles.”
