A new feature provides hotels with a clear way to document waived room cleanings, supporting sustainability initiatives and operational planning.

Sustainability requirements across the hospitality industry continue to grow. Guests increasingly expect opportunities to contribute to resource conservation, while certification schemes require a clear commitment to sustainable practices.

With “Green Option”, SIHOT has expanded its Property Management System (PMS) with a new feature that helps hotels efficiently manage and transparently document voluntary room cleaning waivers.

Available in the latest version of SIHOT.PMS, Green Option enables hotels to selectively suspend individual room cleanings on a reservation basis. Guests can choose to forgo room cleaning during their stay, helping to reduce water and energy consumption as well as the use of cleaning products. At the same time, hotels benefit from a clearly defined and transparent process that supports sustainability initiatives in day-to-day operations.

When Green Option is activated for a future date, the room is automatically excluded from housekeeping schedules for that day. The room status remains unchanged and, depending on the hotel’s housekeeping configuration, the room may either be excluded from cleaning lists or continue to be displayed as clean.

This ensures that housekeeping processes are reflected directly in daily operations without the need for additional manual intervention or parallel workflows. Forecasts and cleaning schedules are adjusted accordingly, enabling hotels to plan and allocate resources based on actual cleaning requirements.

Beyond operational benefits, the new feature provides a reliable foundation for sustainability programmes. Hotels gain a clear overview of all reservations with Green Option enabled and can use this information for internal sustainability reporting, as well as for documenting donation programmes and environmental initiatives.

“Sustainability initiatives need to be practical and easy to implement in day-to-day hotel operations. With Green Option, we have created a process that delivers tangible benefits for both guests and hoteliers while simplifying operational management,” explains Jörg P. Berger, Executive Board Member of the SIHOT Group.

The introduction of Green Option reflects the growing focus on sustainable travel. While many hotels already offer guests the opportunity to opt out of room cleaning during their stay, ensuring consistent implementation and transparent documentation often remains a challenge. This is where SIHOT’s new feature comes in, linking sustainability goals directly with housekeeping operations.

With Green Option, SIHOT expands its existing software suite with a feature that combines environmental responsibility with efficient hotel operations. At the same time, the company reinforces its commitment to supporting hoteliers with practical technology solutions that address the industry’s evolving challenges.
