On May 19 the first episode of the bi-weekly Photographs & Memories podcast series by Atomize and Travel Market Life went live. On the show, a different member of the global hospitality community shares their favorite travel memories, personal stories about trips, and their experience in the industry in each episode.
In the show’s debut season, Photographs & Memories host Michael McCartan, Chief Growth Officer at Atomize, welcomed eleven memory makers including including the group head of travel products at Collinson, the head of technology at WeWork Japan and the MD of DataArt UK, among others. They each brought their three favorite photographs from past trips as well as one souvenir to talk about during the 20-minute episodes. The guests share their special memories from past travels and why they mean so much to them as McCartan explores the significance of each photo and the keepsake.
“Many of us are part of the hospitality industry due to our love of travel, people and community. Over the past year, a lot of that has been taken away since we couldn’t travel or even meet in person. Our goal with Photographs & Memories is to showcase the people of our industry, their stories, challenges and joys and to celebrate the rich tapestry of people and cultures that make up the hospitality sector. In Travel Market Life we’ve found the perfect partner to accomplish this,” says McCartan.
The launch episode featuring Gene Quinn, the co-founder and CEO of Tnooz (which became Phocuswire), will be followed by ten more episodes with industry veterans from around the world. The idea behind inviting guests to share these personal anecdotes, is to offer a welcome break from the stress of hoping and planning for recovery. While many hospitality professionals have been forced to embrace this more analytical and impersonal work, Photographs & Memories is meant as a reminder of what’s at the core of the travel and hospitality industry: personal experience and human connection.
“We’re excited to work on this project with Atomize, to take a moment to appreciate our own travels and memories as we prepare to welcome travelers back. As an industry we’re so used to sharing our travel tales while on the road, and limited digital networking has restricted the chance to hear stories that develop such deep and personal connections. With Photographs & Memories we want to give our guests and our listeners a chance to pause and reflect on cherished memories before they go right back into the throes of hospitality and memory making,” says Ryan Haynes, director of Haynes MarComs Digital Marketing Agency and founder of Travel Market Life.
