New OTA stamps out high commission rates

London-based online travel agent (OTA), Gomingo, is set to disrupt the global accommodation marketplace by offering an initial 0 per cent commission for property owners, hosts, and hotels who list on the platform. The business model provides a simple and easy-to-use platform for hoteliers, property owners, and guests alike.

The online community allows suppliers and guests to list, discover, and book accommodation via a one stop shop that encompasses personalisation and social profiling, without the use of unethical urgency marketing practices. Gomingo provides hosts and consumers with greater flexibility, transparency, and control over bookings to address the high commission rates commonly charged by leading OTAs.

The company has created a clean and friendly environment for hoteliers and property owners to select a straightforward pre-set offer to appear on the website’s homepage, meaning hosts will no longer need to pay higher commission fees for front page visibility. The absence of preferential listing ensures there is equal treatment towards all hosts.

Gomingo is offering all its hosts 0 per cent commission for all bookings taken directly on the platform, and hosts will only ever be charged a maximum of 15 per cent after this period. The lower commission rates will benefit individual and independent hotel owners in particular due to the in-house Content Management System (CMS) and Property Management System (PMS) used. This will enable hosts to better manage their bookings without the tools provided with a Channel Manager (CM), meaning the booking process becomes more time and cost efficient.

As user experience is at the forefront of Gomingo’s company ethos, the low-commission platform will use experiences and recommendations for the consumer as a key functionality of the booking process.  Guests will be able to choose from Gomingo’s growing worldwide network of over 20,000 rooms, in more than 80 countries. All property types will be available to book including hotels, villas, apartments, plus alternative accommodations such as castles and tents. 

To protect both the guest and host, a rigorous cancellation policy is pre-set by Gomingo and selected by the host when listing accommodation on the platform. The hotelier or property owner can choose from one of three universal rate policies – flexible (free cancellation), moderate (50% refund 30 days prior to check-in), and strict (non-refundable).
