IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has announced the signing of Hotel Indigo London – Kingston in the UK&I. Owned by a new partner for IHG, Westcombe Group, through its Acre Hotels Collection, the 90-key hotel is scheduled to open in 2027. Set to become the seventh Hotel Indigo in Greater London, the conversion property will extend IHG’s footprint across the Capital, bringing the brand to Hampton Wick, one of South West London’s best-connected riverside destinations.
The signing forms part of the wider adaptive reuse of Kingston Bridge House, transforming the vacant former university accommodation into a mixed-use destination comprising a Hotel Indigo alongside 22 stylish residences. The project marks a new chapter for the landmark building, creating a characterful destination that celebrates a fresh sense of place in the heart of Hampton Wick. It strengthens IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in the UK&I and supports the continued growth of Hotel Indigo in sought-after urban destinations.
Hotel Indigo, the World’s Neighbourhood Hotel, is IHG’s boutique lifestyle brand, with each property inspired by the culture, character and stories of its local community. Since launching in 2004, the brand has experienced significant growth, doubling its global footprint from 100 open hotels in 2019 to recently reaching a major milestone with the opening of its 200th hotel worldwide. Each Hotel Indigo brings its neighbourhood story to life through locally inspired design, the work of local artists and craftspeople, and food and drink experiences that celebrate the tastes and traditions of the local community.
The hotel will offer views over the River Thames and easy access to nearby attractions such as Hampton Court Palace, Kew Gardens and Richmond Park. Excellent rail and road connections place London Waterloo around 20 minutes away by train and Heathrow Airport approximately 30 minutes away by car, combining the convenience of the Capital with a more relaxed riverside setting. The borough is also home to headquarters of global companies, supporting strong demand from both business and leisure travellers.
Willemijn Geels, VP of Development, Europe, said: “We are delighted to welcome Westcombe Group to IHG and bring Hotel Indigo to the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in the UK. Hampton Wick’s rich history, riverside setting and strong local identity make it a natural fit for a brand that celebrates neighbourhood stories and authentic local experiences.
“This signing reflects strong owner demand for Hotel Indigo in the UK&I and comes as we recently celebrated 200 open Hotel Indigo properties around the world. Together with Westcombe Group, we look forward to creating a distinctive hotel for guests and the local community, supported by IHG’s global scale and powerful enterprise.”
Kamal Pankhania, Chief Executive Officer of Westcombe Group, said: “This is a very exciting moment for Westcombe and for Hampton Wick. We are transforming a formerly vacant building into new homes, affordable housing and a five-star luxury hotel that will bring jobs, prosperity and thousands of visitors into the local area each year.
“I am particularly proud that the hotel will be branded as Hotel Indigo, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ impressive worldwide portfolio of high-value hospitality assets. IHG is one of the most respected names in global hospitality, and we see this project as marking the start of a long and successful relationship between our two businesses here in the UK and overseas.”
“We look forward to creating a hotel that welcomes visitors and the local community, while generating employment and apprenticeship opportunities and working with local suppliers.”
