The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart, has announced the opening of LUMINA, a new luxury event space set to elevate Tasmania’s growing business events and incentive travel sector, while also hosting weddings and private celebrations.
Located in prestigious Parliament Square, overlooking Hobart’s waterfront, LUMINA extends The Tasman’s award-winning hospitality into a purpose-designed events venue.
Named among The World’s 50 Best Hotels in recent years, The Tasman is one of Australia’s most acclaimed luxury addresses, known for its anticipatory service, destination-defining experiences and award-winning food and beverage across Peppina restaurant, Mary Mary bar and event experiences.
The Tasman General Manager Carolyn Smith said the opening marks an exciting milestone for both the hotel and Tasmania’s events sector.
“LUMINA marks an exciting new chapter for The Tasman and for Hobart’s events landscape. It gives us the opportunity to bring the hotel’s signature service, culinary identity and destination into a dedicated events setting,” Ms Smith said.
“Since enquiries opened in November last year, we have seen strong interest from corporate, incentive and private event clients. We are delighted to have already secured 40 events.
“LUMINA has been created for event organisers and guests who are looking for more than a room. It is a setting that can be completely personalised, supported by the full hospitality experience of The Tasman.”
Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff welcomed the investment in Parliament Square and Tasmania’s visitor economy.

A PURPOSE-DESIGNED SETTING FOR HOBART EVENTS
Designed by award-winning Australian practice fjcstudio, the architects behind The Tasman, LUMINA combines contemporary design with Tasmanian provenance. The pillar-free design is constructed from cantilevered glulam beams manufactured from Tasmanian plantation oak – the largest weighing in at 4 tonnes. The uninterrupted sightlines and abundant natural light create a flexible and uplifting setting for meetings, celebrations and special events.
FLEXIBLE SPACES, TAILORED EXPERIENCES
LUMINA has been designed to respond to the growing demand for premium, boutique-scale event spaces that can flex between intimate and high-impact formats. The venue can accommodate up to 180 guests theatre style, 156 classroom style, 190 for a gala dinner, 166 for a wedding reception, 100 in an open elliptical format and up to 220 for a standing cocktail event. Its pre-function space can also host up to 100 guests for cocktail-style arrivals and networking. LUMINA complements the hotel’s existing collection of event spaces, allowing tailored events ranging from executive meetings to private dinners and major celebrations.
Through The Tasman’s Concierge and local connections, event organisers can incorporate Tasmanian storytellers, artisans and interactive experiences into their programs.
Food and beverage will be central to the LUMINA experience, reflecting The Tasman’s culinary philosophy and long-standing relationships with Tasmanian producers. Menus will showcase seasonal produce, ethical sourcing and wellness-focused options.
Event organisers can tailor dining experiences ranging from plated service and banquet menus to long-table dinners and interactive food stations, including live cooking experiences and producer- led moments.
SUPPORTING TASMANIA’S BUSINESS EVENTS GROWTH
Tasmania continues to experience strong growth in business events, with Business Events Tasmania welcoming a record number of delegates to the state last year. Corporate and incentive visitors remain among the highest-yield travel segments, spending an average $1,347 per delegate per day.
Business Events Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Marnie Craig said the addition of LUMINA strengthened Tasmania’s position as a premium incentive and business events destination.
