Central America’s first Unbound Collection Hotel opens in Panama

Hotel La Compañía, the first hotel to open within The Unbound Collection by Hyatt portfolio in Central America, officially is welcoming guests. The hotel pioneers a new level of luxury hospitality in Panama’s historic Casco Antiguo neighborhood, a popular destination for dining, nightlife, and cultural tours among visitors.

Hotel La Compañía is a living museum where Panama’s rich history is celebrated through thought-provoking design, locally inspired culinary experiences, and distinctive art. Originally built as a Jesuit convent in 1688, Hotel La Compañía is an architectural masterpiece centered around three periods in the hotel’s history – French Colonial, Spanish Colonial, and Beaux-Arts.

“The opening of Hotel La Compañía marks the end of a seven-year restoration project where expert historians, craftsmen, and architects from around the world came together to bring a story-worthy experience to our region,” said General Manager Fidel Reyes. “We look forward to welcoming guests visiting Panama for both business and pleasure to experience our guestrooms, restaurants, and cultural programming.”

Hotel La Compañía is centrally located in the heart of Panama’s old quarter. Inspired by the cultural influences of its lively neighborhood and the construction of the Panama Canal, this one-of-a-kind hotel is designed as a place where the destination’s past collides with the modern Casco Antiguo experience. The hotel spans nearly one city block with four buildings, in addition to the ruins of a 300-year-old church that envelops a spacious courtyard with lush gardens, alfresco dining, and exceptional settings for events of all kinds.

The hotel’s 88 guestrooms are divided into three wings that all pay tribute to each of the cultural time periods that influence the property. The French Colonial wing, built as a Jesuit university in 1739, boasts classic French sophistication while the Spanish Colonial wing offers guests a cozy ambiance with original calicanto walls, dark woods, and wrought iron accents. The youngest of the buildings, the American wing takes inspiration from the early 20th century with elegant wainscoting panels accentuated with a timeless photo wall. All guestrooms have a balcony with views that overlook the hotel’s courtyard or the beautiful neighborhood of Casco Antiguo.

A destination for dining and entertainment for both guests and locals alike, Hotel La Compañía offers chef-driven culinary experiences featuring creative menus that focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The hotel houses a variety of restaurants, in addition to a lobby bar, a rooftop lounge, an all-day dining sanctuary, and a coffee bar.

Hotel La Compañía’s signature dining options include 1739, a contemporary French restaurant featuring time-honored classics with a modern twist, and a private dining room, located within a 300-year-old wine cellar. Hari’s, a theatrical speakeasy experience adorned with mismatched and eclectic furniture inspired by the famed 1980s designer Harry Segal, offers shared plates and crafted cocktails. Capella, the rooftop lounge, and Exilio Bar in the lobby invite guests to indulge in the hotel’s carefully crafted cocktail menu and wine list. Executive Chef Dani Osorio is thrilled to be leading the culinary team with his extensive knowledge and experience in infusing Latin American flavors into modern creative dishes

In addition to dining, the hotel allows guests to experience a variety of amenities and services from an intimate rooftop spa with four treatment rooms, to a breathtaking rooftop pool featuring panoramic views of the city and the Pacific Ocean. Guests can also immerse themselves in the local culture by learning about the historic city through cultural tours and programming organized by the hotel’s concierge service.

The hotel’s opening now allows guests to enjoy guestrooms, restaurants, and amenities located in the French and Spanish wings. Guestrooms and restaurants (American Bazaar, Luigi’s, Capella, and Hari’s) located in the American wing will open in the coming weeks.
