Travellers searching for a new level of luxury in London can look forward to discovering Belmond Cadogan Hotel, opening early 2019.
Belmond Cadogan Hotel will be a ‘home away from home’ on prestigious Sloane Street, renowned as a luxury shopping enclave. Positioned between chic Chelsea and glamorous Knightsbridge, it offers the best of two of London’s most fashionable and artistic neighbourhoods. The $48-million project will restore the unique heritage of the magnificent Queen Anne Revival property, dating from 1887, while fully renovating the property in a contemporary style as one of London’s most exclusive retreats. Rich details will celebrate and preserve the hotel’s heritage, while the design offers a front-row seat to modern London society.
History
Belmond Cadogan Hotel has long played an integral role in the cultural history of the Kensington and Chelsea area, and it will draw inspiration from the neighbourhood’s character, offering an elegant meeting place for both guests and the local community. The hotel’s legendary connections include pioneering explorer and scientist Sir Hans Sloane, flamboyant writer Oscar Wilde, and actress Lillie Langtry.
Design
The hotel will have 54 rooms, two-thirds of which are suites, some featuring original fireplaces. Each guest will have access to a discreet entrance from 21 Pont Street, so the hotel may be used as a private residence; guests are offered a key so they can come and go quietly. Belmond Cadogan Hotel faces a private garden that guests can visit as an escape in the heart of Chelsea, where they can enjoy a picnic or play tennis. The property also offers a 24-hour fitness suite, spa suite with a range of treatments and a library. Young guests will enjoy dedicated menus, in-room amenities such as bathrobes and games, and family-friendly suggestions from the concierge.
Dining
Executive Chef Adam Handling will showcase contemporary British cuisine honouring tradition and local provenance, all with zero waste. Handling has been recognised as a rising culinary star for his exceptional cuisine that marries daring flavours with out-of-the-ordinary techniques, creating harmonious dishes. The main restaurant will feature an open kitchen providing a window onto the chef’s theatre. The Bar and Terrace, accessed directly from Pont Street, is set to become a local favourite, featuring drinks and lighter bites. The Tea Lounge will offer Handling’s specially crafted tea service.
