The LineUp at Wai Kai announces key new hires in advance of March 2023 opening

The LineUp at Wai Kai, located within Hoakalei Resort in Ewa Beach, today announced key team member appointments in preparation for its grand opening in March 2023. The highly anticipated waterfront recreation and entertainment destination, headlined by the Wai Kai Wave, is the first of its kind in Hawaii.

Greg Champion has joined The LineUp at Wai Kai as general manager. In his new role, Champion will oversee all aspects of the project, from day-to-day operations to team development and strategy. A seasoned executive with over 15 years of hospitality management, tourism, resort and business development experience, he most recently served as general manager for Ko Olina Marina and Activities in Ko Olina. Prior, Champion was director of global marketing for Outrigger Hotels & Resorts and held various market management roles in Hawaii for Expedia and Travelocity. He holds a master’s in Hospitality & Tourism Management from University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a bachelor’s in Business Communications.

Nicole Fuertes has been appointed as director of marketing. Fuertes brings 20 years of communications and marketing experience to her role at The LineUp at Wai Kai. She most recently served as the marketing and communications director at Pacific Telecommunications Council. Prior, she was vice president at Hawaii’s leading integrated communications and marketing agency, CommPac. Born and raised in Hawaii, Nicole is a graduate of Boston University where she received a degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations.

Maurice Copeland has been named director of food and beverage at The LineUp at Wai Kai. A 30-year veteran of the food and beverage industry, Copeland will oversee the food and beverage strategies as well as restaurant operations for The LineUp’s culinary outposts. His previous experiences include leadership positions at The Modern Honolulu, Hilton Hawaiian Village® and Turtle Bay Resort.

In addition, Marie Watanabe has joined the team as sales manager, Cheri Lewis has been appointed controller and Heather Kakazu-Shak has been named director of retail of Sessions Lifestyle & Apparel.

Located 35 minutes from Honolulu overlooking the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean, The LineUp at Wai Kai’s amenities include Hawaii’s first deep-water standing surf wave, the 52-acre Wai Kai Lagoon for water sports, delectable restaurants, a waterman’s club and a unique retail shop.
