Marcel Thoma appointed GM at Mandarin Oriental Marrakech

Marcel ThomaMandarin Oriental Hotel Group has appointed hospitality leader Marcel Thoma as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech. The five-star luxury resort set in 20 hectares of alluring fragrant gardens and olive groves, only minutes from the magical city centre, is currently celebrating its fifth anniversary.

Marcel is delighted to take up his new role at the Group’s Marrakech resort. “I am honoured to join the legendary group of hotels that is Mandarin Oriental. And Marrakech is one of the most vibrant and culturally exciting destinations on the African continent. It’s thrilling to play a part in offering this unique, world-class city and its culture to such sophisticated and discerning travellers.”

With more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Marcel began his career in Zürich at the luxury boutique Widder Hotel followed by time with The Ritz-Carlton in Mexico and Spain. He then moved on to management roles with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts in New York, The Upper House in Hong Kong and latterly Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group corporate headquarters in the same city. Fluent in several languages, Marcel loves meeting new people – and meeting their expectations of a luxury resort.
