“We are confident Jim will make an exceptional addition to the newly transformed beachfront property,” said Jim Merrill, executive vice president, operations at Pyramid Hotel Group. “With his 35-year career in the hospitality industry and extensive knowledge and experience of luxury brands, Jim will play an instrumental role in the continued growth of the property while preserving the first-class service for which Westin Grand Cayman is renowned.”

Mauer arrived on Grand Cayman from Miami, where he spent the past year as managing director of the boutique Mayfair Hotel & Spa in historic Coconut Grove. Prior to assuming that position, Mauer served as managing director of Eden Roc Resort & Elle Spa, where he successfully designed and executed a brand transition of the resort into an independent luxury brand. He also held leadership roles in Fort Lauderdale as general manager of Bonaventure Golf Resort & Spa and area general manager of Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. Mauer also served essential roles in three hotel openings for Marriott International, Inc., including Casa Magna Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Castle Harbor Resort, Bermuda.

“I am delighted to be joining the team following a dramatic revitalization of the beautiful Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa,” says Jim Mauer. “The Westin Grand Cayman has a well-regarded reputation for providing a warm, friendly atmosphere for guests and is known as a destination where travellers and international jet-setters can create ever-lasting memories. I look forward to building upon this impressive foundation and making the resort a top choice for destinations to come.”

Mauer now oversees the newest property on Grand Cayman, which saw a complete overhaul of all indoor and outdoor public spaces, as well as enriched guest experiences. The exciting new direction the property has taken was completed in two phases, encompassed floor-to-ceiling renovations to the resort’s 343 luxe accommodations with new colours, textures and materials inspired by elements of the island environment, while the freshwater swimming pool was also expanded and restyled to fit a new swim-up bar.

Elevating the sense of arrival for guests, the new lobby was remodelled and expanded, accented with a bright, neutral palette, wood plank flooring, organic columns, and ceiling arrayed with soft, undulating curves to conjure images of ocean waves and draw attention to panoramic views of the azure sea. Known for its culinary excellence, the resort also welcomed Cayman Coffee Exchange, providing convenient light bites and refreshments to guests as well as the Catboat Lobby Bar, a chic spot for locals and guests to meet for cocktails while enjoying a famous Cayman sunset.
