Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School offers new Val Cook Alumni Scholarship

BMIHMS is always looking for individuals who are truly passionate about a career in hospitality management and so the school has announced the following exclusive scholarships on offer.

The Val Cook Alumni Scholarship

The Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) is offering a new scholarship for prospective students. We are looking for people with a passion and a drive to succeed that can add to their current experience in this exciting industry.

The Val Cook Scholarship, named after BMIHMS’ long term Alumni Ambassador and sponsored by the School’s Alumni Board, will offer one student a fully funded residential diploma when they enrol in the BMIHMS Bachelor of International Hotel and Resort Management degree. The scholarship covers the cost of all course units, meals and accommodation at the Leura campus for six months and is aimed towards experienced hospitality employees wanting to gain formal qualifications. Applicants must have 2-5 years of hospitality/tourism industry experience.

About Val Cook

Val Cook has spent a lifetime devoted to hospitality and hospitality education. Val studied at the prestigious Westminster College London (1959-1960) before working in a number of high profile restaurants and hotels in the UK, including Grosvenor House London. In Australia he worked in a variety of hotels and restaurants including the opening of the then ground breaking Ayres House complex in Adelaide. Throughout his career he has held a variety of positions including Executive Chef, Food & Beverage Manager and General Manager.

Val further graduated from the University of South Australia with a three year Diploma in Higher Education. He left teaching at Regency College Adelaide to join the opening team of BMIHMS in 1991. Here he has held the positions of Senior Lecturer, Course Coordinator, Vice Principal and Acting Principal and is now the Alumni Ambassador. BMIHMS would like to honour Mr Cook with his dedication to the school since its inception on behalf of all the students he has educated and inspired.

Additional Scholarship Conditions

  • Candidates must be able to relocate to Leura for 6 months and live on campus.
  • Candidates must be willing to cover the cost of their own text books and uniform.
  • Candidates must be willing to participate in and be available for PR and promotional opportunities for BMIHMS.
  • Candidates are required to adhere to all relevant policies and requirements for study of BMIHMS.
  • Candidates are required to comply with all relevant health and safety guidelines, procedures and directions of BMIHMS.
  • Candidates are required to use all equipment and facilities BMIHMS in a lawful and responsible manner.

Indigenous Scholarship

BMIHMS has partnered with AccorHotels to offer a new Indigenous Scholarship to prospective students. This is a unique opportunity for an Indigenous Australian who have proven their passion and dedication to the hospitality industry and are seeking formal qualifications to take their hotelier career to the next level. This industry scholarship consists of a one-year diploma that comprises of six months at the BMIHMS Leura campus and six months in industry placement. During the six months at Leura, BMIHMS will cover full tuition, food and board for the recipient. AccorHotels will cover all reasonable travel expenses and will also guarantee casual work at the Fairmont Resort as appropriate in accordance with the Scholarship Holder’s Diploma timetable and coursework. AccorHotels will also coordinate the industry placement for the recipient.

Intake Scholarships

BMIHMS has a number of scholarship opportunities on offer to support students financially. You do not necessarily require prior experience to apply. These scholarships include National and State Scholarships for Australia citizens, undergraduate and postgraduate Motivational Scholarships, Undergraduate Residential Scholarships and Postgraduate Tuition Fee scholarships.
