The Australian hotel industry is responding to continued record international visitor growth with a record level of hotel investment Ð over $8 billion Ð that is set to transform AustraliaÕs accommodation and tourism sectors. Figures released today by Tourism Accommodation Australia identify 228 hotel projects (34,702 rooms) under construction.

Airbnb closes $1 billion funding round with war chest for growth

Airbnb closed a funding round of more than $1 billion, valuing the home-sharing start-up at about $31 billion, according to three people familiar with the company. In December, Bloomberg first reported the companyÕs plans to increase the funding it was seeking by authorising the sale of an additional $153 million in equity.
