Sydney Harbour Marriott’s Customs House Bar, one of Sydney’s oldest and most storied pubs, has partnered with Sydney Brewery to unveil an exclusive new brew, CHB Lager – a signature beer crafted to honour the venue’s rich history while introducing a fresh, contemporary drinking experience in the heart of Circular Quay.

For a venue built on nearly 180 years of stories, Customs House Bar is elevated to share its newest chapter: CHB Lager, crafted in partnership with Sydney Brewery. This light-bodied lager delivers a smooth, clean finish and pours a bright straw-gold colour. With a low to medium malt character evident in both aroma and flavour, it’s an easy-drinking beer that perfectly complements any occasion.
Brewed in collaboration with iconic local producer Sydney Brewery, CHB Lager is designed as a smooth, approachable lager that reflects both the heritage and character of Customs House Bar, a venue that has welcomed guests since 1846.
The launch of CHB Lager coincides with the introduction of Taps & Tales: Stories Brewed Since 1846, a unique immersive experience that brings together storytelling and beer tasting, inviting guests to explore nearly 180 years of history through every sip.
Set within the historic surrounds of Macquarie Place, Taps & Tales takes guests on a guided journey through time from the early days of sailors and customs officers to modern-day city life, uncovering stories linked to the venue, including legendary figures such as Sir Charles Kingsford Smith.
CHB Lager is the hero of the experience, giving guests a true taste of Customs House Bar while bringing its history and local roots to life.
“This collaboration is about more than creating a new beer,” said Roman Kristek, Director of Food & Beverage at Sydney Harbour Marriott. “It’s about capturing the essence of Customs House Bar, its stories, its people and its place in Sydney’s history and bringing that to life in a way that feels relevant today.”
Through its partnership with Sydney Brewery, Customs House Bar continues to showcase local craftsmanship, aligning with a growing appreciation for authentic, experience-led hospitality. The CHB Lager represents a modern expression of this philosophy, a beer that is both grounded in heritage and designed for today’s guest.
Taps & Tales is a weekly guided tasting experience that invites guests to uncover the rich history and stories of Customs House Bar while enjoying a curated beer tasting featuring the venue’s signature CHB Lager.
Held every Wednesday at 11:15am and Saturday at 2:15pm, this 30-minute experience is exclusively available to Marriott Bonvoy members. Guests can join Marriott Bonvoy free of charge and take part in this unique journey through the venue’s heritage, one sip at a time.
Bookings are available at customshousebar.com.au
From its heritage-listed marble bar to its iconic location just moments from the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Customs House Bar remains a cornerstone of Sydney’s social and cultural landscape, now with a signature beer to call its own.
