Built with 1,600 cubic meters of regionally sourced timber and featuring untreated wood as a structural element in its rooms, Radisson RED Innsbruck stands out as one of the most materially distinctive properties in the brand’s portfolio. The 161-room hotel forms part of DAS RAIQA, a new mixed-use quarter developed by Raiffeisen-Landesbank Tirol at the intersection of Innsbruck’s main train station and the Old Town – bringing together hotel, gastronomy, retail, art and event spaces in a shared urban environment. The opening also marks the debut of Radisson Hotel Group in Austria’s state of Tyrol.

Location & Design

DAS RAIQA follows an Urban Sharing concept, where hotel guests, bank visitors, diners and event attendees move through the same public spaces. Around 10,000 people pass through the quarter each day, creating a sense of constant activity more typical of an inner-city hub than a standalone hotel development. The hotel is located three minutes on foot from Innsbruck central station and five from the Old Town, connected via the redesigned Bozner Platz.

At the center of the building, hotel and bank share a 440-square-meter atrium rising 35 meters under a glass canopy, with the original concrete structure left exposed. Above, the “Hammerkopf”, a cantilevered wing extending from the sixth floor upward, houses 16 guest rooms with unobstructed views across the quarter and toward the surrounding peaks. At street level, the development is home to local Tyrolean businesses – from a bakery and wine shop to a tailor and cobbler – alongside the Kunstbrücke art gallery hosting rotating exhibitions.

“We are very deliberate about where and how we introduce Radisson RED, and Innsbruck is a natural fit. With its mix of international visitors, strong meetings demand and immediate access to the outdoors, the city reflects the duality that defines the brand. Combined with the integrated concept of DAS RAIQA, this creates a hotel that is not only distinct in design, but also highly relevant for how people travel and meet today,” says Yilmaz Yildirimlar, Chief Operating Officer Managed Hotels Europe, Radisson Hotel Group.

Accommodation
All 161 guest rooms are located on the upper floors of the building – and this is where the timber becomes the defining element. Built with regionally sourced wood, each room has at least two walls of untreated timber. In most, the ceiling is timber as well. The effect is warm, tactile and distinctly alpine.

Room categories range from Standard Rooms (23 m²) with rooftop, mountain, courtyard or street views, to Premium Rooms (30 m²), Junior Suites (34 m²) with open-plan living areas, and Suites (44 m²) with separate living and sleeping spaces. All rooms are equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, smart TVs, USB charging and in-room coffee and tea facilities.

Dining & Fitness

The ninth floor is home to LOFT9, a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views across Innsbruck to the Nordkette mountain range. Serving modern Tyrolean cuisine by day and transitioning to a bar in the evening, it is open to hotel guests and outside visitors alike. A 90-square-meter gym with cardio and strength training equipment is open around the clock, complemented by an outdoor training area with mountain views.

Meetings & Events

Innsbruck is one of Austria’s most established congress destinations, with a strong university and research base that drives year-round demand for conferences and events. Radisson RED Innsbruck adds a contemporary, international option to this market.

The centerpiece is Saal Friedrich, a 320-square-meter event space on the upper floors for up to 220 guests, equipped with modern AV technology and connected to a 128-square-meter outdoor terrace with views of the surrounding Alps. Victor offers 89 square meters of flexible, divisible meeting space with east-facing views over the city. Six additional boardrooms for 8 to 50 guests complete the offering – all with natural light and contemporary conferencing technology.

Sustainability

Rather than fully demolishing the existing structure, the development of DAS RAIQA followed a Social-Urban-Mining approach – deconstructing and reusing materials where possible, helping to save an estimated 150 tons of CO in the process. Heating and cooling are primarily supplied through geothermal energy and thermally managed groundwater systems, supplemented by a connection to Innsbruck’s district heating network.

Inside the hotel, the timber construction also serves as a carbon store, while significantly reducing the building’s weight – each modular room unit weighs approximately six tons. Green rooftop areas and EV charging infrastructure in the underground garage complete the picture.

The Destination

Innsbruck is a city defined by proximity. The UNESCO-listed Old Town with the Golden Roof, baroque squares and a lively café and restaurant scene sit within minutes of cable cars that reach over 2,000 meters altitude. It is one of the few European cities where a morning meeting can be followed by a summit hike before dinner – or where a congress delegate can step from a conference room onto a terrace facing the Alps. With direct rail connections from Vienna, Munich, Zurich, or Venice – and an international airport just four kilometers from the city center – Innsbruck is among the most accessible alpine destinations in Europe.

“Radisson RED Innsbruck is designed to reflect how people move through the city – between work, leisure and the outdoors. With DAS RAIQA bringing together different uses in one place, and a strong meetings and events offering, we are positioning the hotel as a social and professional hub from day one,” says Matthias Guttengeber, General Manager, Radisson RED Innsbruck.
