Making a difference for the community is what drives the entire InterContinental Lisbon team, who came together to help those in need by preparing 1,000 meals in favour of ReFood and raising funds to support children from SOS Children’s Village and the Portuguese Association for Autism (APPDA). “Giving For Good” is the motto of several inspiring and supportive actions that took place at the five-star property for IHG’s philanthropic month.
Giving For Good is more than a month at InterContinental Lisbon, it is a moment when the entire team is motivated, supportive, and ready to help. 1,000 meals were prepared in favour of the São Sebastião nucleus of ReFood, which has developed solidarity work and has supported more than 50 households and 100 individuals.
InterContinental Lisbon values the health and well-being of children and knows that many of them have suffered from neglect and require dental treatments. Taking this into consideration, the costs of dental treatments for children and young people monitored in SOS Villages will be funded by the hotel with a donation of €1,500, raised from a garage sale. Improving oral health also helps to improve a series of self-esteem and self-image problems, making a positive impact on the mental health of the children.
As part of the hotel’s fundraising initiatives, a scrap metal sale, bake sale and table football rental were held, with the funds raised going to the “Skills Gym”, an Educational and Therapeutic Centre in cooperation with the Portuguese Association for Autism Spectrum Disorder (APPDA). This donation of €500 will be used to purchase pedagogical and therapeutic materials for educational support for children with learning disabilities.
Thinking about the “heroes” of our country, who are constantly dedicated to the community and strive hard for the common good, InterContinental Lisbon offered a different breakfast for people who are always ready to help those who need it most.
“Firefighters are the true heroes in helping communities and citizens, so with enthusiasm, we organised this well-deserved event. We thank the operatives of the 1st Battalion of the Lisbon Firefighters Regiment, for what they are, and for what they give! Together, Let’s Go Further! Together We Make the Community!”, says Maarten Drenth, Area General Manager Portugal.
InterContinental Lisbon believes that together, we can achieve great things and make a positive impact. The commitment doesn’t stop here as the philanthropic actions continue with food donations in favour of ReFood and incredible volunteering activities carried out by hotel employees.
